Go Green Ganesha is a Social and Environmental cause initiated to save Marine life and Environment by adopting Go Green Eco friendly Ganesha Idols as an environment saving alternative of Plaster of Paris’s (PoP) harmful Ganesha Idols in up coming Ganesha Chaturthi also know as Ganesha Festival.
India is particularly vulnerable to the various impacts of climate change. We already have been exposed to the worst tsunamis, famine, droughts, floods and even wars over water rights. Lord Ganesha is worshipped in all parts of our country as "Vighnaharta" or the trouble-shooter God. During Ganesha Chaturthi festival, more than millions of Plaster of Paris-made Ganpati idols are immersed in water throughout India and more than lacs are immersed in Mumbai alone. With this in mind, have we ever seriously thought about just how toxic and harmful are the effects of the Plaster of Paris idols to marine life, Environment and to our own lives?
Environmentalists state that Plaster of Paris (POP) Idols contain gypsum, sulphur, phosphorus, magnesium, mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic and carbon which are very dangerous to all marine life, ecosystem and to humans life. It takes several months for PoP to dissolve in water; it greatly reduces oxygen levels and increases acidity in water. What does this mean?..Disturbing the ecosystem in such way leads to death of most marine life as a result of poisoning the waters of lakes, ponds, rivers and seas. This toxic and poisonous water also causes contamination of the underground waters. Animals, fishes drink this toxic water and it eventually ends up in our food chain through milk products, sea food or meat. …Means a serious health hazard to us, humans. In many areas, the same polluted water gets pumped into homes as well.
People who consume this type of polluted water, experience a wide range of health problems such as infections of the lungs, intestinal water born diseases (as typhoid, Hepatitis, cholera , gastritis, Diarrhea etc) and diseases of the skin (as skin maceration, irritation, or infection) blood, and eyes.
We need Clean and wholesome Environment to live in considering it is our birth right but we fail to understand that its our Fundamental duty under the Constitution of India to protect and improve our Environment including lakes, rivers, forests and all other natural resources. Has anyone seriously considered and cared about the immensely harmful effects of the Plaster of Paris on Sustainable Development, i.e. Maintaining Ecological balances for our own lifetime as well as for future Generations?
Let us make practical implication of the motto, “Prevention is better than the cure”! Every step taken to protect our environment is an investment in to our own well-being as well for our next generations. This planet is all we have and everything else loses significance without it...So today is the day and now is the best time to take the first step toward Saving the Environment By supporting our Go Green Ganesha cause which is formed by two professional guys namely Dr. Pradeep Tripathi and Durgesh Gupta.
We are not only creating awareness but also providing solutions by introducing our Go Green Ganesha (Eco friendly Ganesha Idols) on a mass level. To make this noble common cause a successful one, we urgently need and seeking your full support to save our Environment and Mother Earth.
GO GREEN GANESHA
ReplyDeleteFinally some helping hands for our mother earth by providing Eco-Friendly ganesha, as more than 7 lakhs Ganpati idols are immersed throughout India and more than lakhs only in Mumbai during Ganesh Chaturthi resulting in huge amount of water and sound Pollution, This polluted water is a threat not only to marine ecosystems and creatures but to us equally. Considering this important aspects in mind and for the beloved Mother earth and elephant god Ganesha an Initiative taken by two Spiritual and professional guys namely Dr. Pradeep Tripathi and Durgesh Gupta by forming GO GREEN GANESHA. Inaugurating the GGG by mayor of Mumbai and Navi-Mumbai they wished them all the best in this initiative and requested all Indian people especially Ganesha lover to join with this cause.
Plaster of Paris (PoP) takes longer to dissolve, as also it reduces the oxygen level in water resulting in the death of marine life. Pop are non-naturally occurring material and contains chemicals such as gypsum, sulphur, phosphorus and magnesium. The idols take several months to dissolve in water and in the process poison the waters of lake, ponds, rives and seas. As these PoP Ganesha Idols crumble into the seawater, the ocean's flora and fauna suffer from the sudden increase in acidity and toxicity of the water. For years this issue has been tap-danced around to protect religious sentiment, but the urgency of protecting the environment should probably hold more importance and urgency than people's religious sensitivities. Surely, educated men and women understand that to abuse the divine gift of nature is in no way a means of paying obeisance to a deity. People who uses these polluted water experience a host of health problems such as infections of the lungs, and diseases of the skin, blood, and eyes. In many areas, the same polluted water gets pumped into homes. The Government crushes all the idols, takes it on a launch and dunks it deep into the sea! So, the shores are clean but the marine life suffers because the thousands of immersed idols are made of PoP, this initiatives would really help if everyone else understood the harms of PoP and chemical paints used in making an idol,” says Mr Durgesh Gupta.
Dr. Pradeep says, that the problem that artisans face is that there is very less demand for eco-friendly idols as the people who make didnt have any platform to sell the same. Considering the harm of PoP we started research on it and find out that already there are many organizations, Trusts and NGOs are already creating awareness since many years about the hazard of POP Ganesha idol and cleaning re immersing Idols again but its impact was not as much as expected and needed and we try to found the reason and come to know that most of organizations are working on effects rather than real root caus, and we decide to hammer on root cause rather than working on effect. So we have tried and planned to make available Go Green eco friendly Ganesha Idols range from Rs. 200 to 50000 all over which are rarely available in city and online Go Green Ganesha store for who are staying out of city and country.
Go Green Ganesha is one such initiatives that has made eco-sensitive Ganesha with an aforedable prices. The best part about these idols is that they can be immersed in a bucket of water, which can be further used to water the plants. The Team said, "Our eco-sensitive Ganesh idols being made of natural clay and the idols are painted with natural materials such as turmeric, geroo and multani mitti." and "The products we use are either completely natural or made from recycled products.
